Gotta Serve Somebody
During his rather brief sojourn as a Christian, Bob Dylan released a song called “Gotta Serve Sombody.” Click here if you need a reminder.
Not only is it a catchy tune, it came at a time when I was Program Director at my college’s radio station, so I was quite invested in the music scene, and it was quite controversial among Dylan’s devoted fanbase at the school.

Jesus said, “No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
We may believe that we can “multi-task” our priorities, but the reality is that something is always on top. That doesn’t mean we do only one thing, but it does mean that when push comes to shove, there is a hierarchy of priorities in our choices and decisions. The challenge is first to be honest about that hierarchy and make sure it is what you want it to be.
