Psalm 23 and Mothers
I associate Psalm 23 (click here to read it) with funerals. That’s probably unique to me as a pastor because I have done and attended more funerals than most and Psalm 23 is typically a favorite for families planning a service. Thate’s nothing wrong about that, but there is so much more in it!
This Sunday is the Fou0rth Sunday of Easter and is informally known as Good Shepherd Sunday and we read this Psalm every year on this Sunday. Once in awhile, like this year, it also falls on Mother’s Day.
That got me think about this Psalm in a whole new way. The combination of the bucolic vision of ease and plenty alongside the terrifying vision of the valley of the shadow of death expresses some truths about motherhood (and parenthood, in general).
How might these ideas come together in godly motherhood?
I look forward to sharing what God showed me this week! See you Sunday, May 8, 10 a.m., in-person and livestream!
