The Order of the Daughters of the King® is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the historic episcopate but not in communion with it. Our membership currently includes women in the Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran (ELCA), and Roman Catholic churches.
Members of The Order of the Daughters of the King® are women and girls between the ages of seven and one hundred and seven who desire a closer walk with the Lord. We are Christian women, both lay and ordained, who are strengthened through the discipline of a Rule of Life, and supported through the companionship of our sisters. We are all at different stages of our Christian journey – some have just begun and some have been on this path for a long time. But no matter where we are on our sacred journeys, our primary goal is the same – to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known to others.
The Mission of The Order is the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through Prayer, Service and Evangelism.
Order vs. Organization
A Christian order is a community of men or women living under a religious rule. Because Daughters of the King accept a Rule of Life, we define ourselves as an order, not an organization. Our community is found primarily in our local chapters, but it extends around the world.
After a three-month period of study and discernment, each new member takes vows to uphold the two Rules of The Order, the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service.
In solidarity with one another, all Daughters everywhere make the same promises upon their admission to The Order:
- To obey the two Rules of The Order: the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service.
- To offer at all times loyal aid to our clergy and parish to spread Christ’s kingdom.
- To wear faithfully the cross of The Order.
- To work for the purposes of The Order as God may give us the opportunity.
Rule of Life
A rule of life is a self-imposed spiritual discipline practiced daily by an individual. It is a commitment intelligently and prayerfully considered.
Members of The Order of the Daughters of the King® undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service, pledging herself to a life-long program of Prayer, Service, and Evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.
Each member’s personal Rule of Life reflects her unique spiritual journey. A Daughter’s Rule of Life is developed prayerfully with God’s guidance. The Rule is not meant to be fixed, but flexible, to accommodate her changing life circumstances and spiritual growth.
Most Daughters find that the discipline of a Rule of Life fosters a deeper relationship with Christ. The commitment made through our vows often serves as a catalyst that draws us closer to the heart of God – transforming our lives and leading us into more dedicated prayer and service for the sake of the One whose cross we wear.
Rule of Prayer
Prayer always comes first. It is the first priority for Daughters, and our Service and Evangelism depend upon it. Our vows do not specify particular prayers, length of prayers, or times of prayer, just that we pray daily for our sisters, our church, and our clergy.
Even minimal daily prayer increases our ability to see God at work around us. We grow in faith to pray not only for our own needs but also for those of others.
Part of every Daughter’s Rule of Prayer is to pray daily:
- For the unity of Christ’s church
- For the spread of Christ’s Kingdom, especially among women and girls
- For God’s blessing upon the members of The Order
- For the spiritual growth of the parish and for the clergy of the parish to which the chapter owes allegiance
Rule of Service
The Rule of Service is the application and extension of our baptismal vows. As part of her Rule of Service, each Daughter promises:
- To be Christ’s faithful servant in the extension of His Kingdom.
- To regularly take part in the worship, study and work of the Church.
- To render at all times aid to the clergy as deemed necessary for the spiritual up-building of the parish.
The Rule of Service does not designate when, where, or how a Daughter or chapter should serve. Through prayer and discernment Daughters are led to areas of need in our churches and communities. The Rule is simple because we can serve through any word or deed that is said or done with the sincere purpose of bringing a soul nearer to Christ.
There are always more “needs” than we have time and energy for, so we ask the Holy Spirit to lead us to those who will be blessed by who we are and what we have to give.
The Prayer of the Order
O Eternal Father, you have sent us your Son to teach us things pertaining to your heavenly Kingdom. Give your blessing to our Order wherever it may be throughout the world. Grant that we, your Daughters, ever may discern your truth and bear the cross through the battles of our earthly life. Give us strength to overcome temptation and the grace to work to spread your Kingdom and to gather your scattered sheep within your fold. Pour out upon us the sevenfold gift of the Holy Spirit that we may always remember it is your work we are called to do, that all we think, do or say may be pleasing in your sight. We ask it all For His Sake, our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
The Motto of the Order
For His Sake…
I am but one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.
Lord, what will you have me do?
Vision Statement of the Order
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as Daughters of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.
Our Chapter Chaplain

Rev. Vanessa Cato is our newly appointed Chapter Chaplain. To her comes the call to be a spiritual guide and advisor, to provide pastoral care and liturgical services, and to communicate the work of the Order to other clergy. Almighty and everlasting God, we pray that she may be filled with the gifts of the Holy spirit, that you will confirm and strengthen her that she may grow in the love and knowledge of your Son, Jeses Christ. Give her grace to nurture the Daughthers under her care that we may grow together in our Rule of Life
