The Rt. Rev’d Dr. Justin Holcomb, Bishop of the Diocese of Central Florida visits us

Bishop Justin Holcomb came to visit St. Johns on August 10, to share with us Preaching and Holy Eucharist with Celebration of New Ministry, Confirmations, Receptions and Reaffirmations into the Episcopal church.
The Celebration of New Ministry started with our Sr. and Jr. Wardens, Kathy Oas and Paul Mitz presenting Timothy Rutherford to the Bishop.
The letter of Institution was read by Rev. Cannon Dan Smith.


The Litany was read by The Rev’d Tom Rutherford.


A passage from The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ was read by Father Timothy.

The Sermon was delivered by The Rt. Rev’d Dr. Justin Holcomb

After the Sermon the Presentation and Examination of the Candidates for Confirmation and Reception took place. The Bishop and the congregation Prayed for the Candidates.


At the conclusion of the Confirmations and Receptions, the Celebration of a New Ministry continued with the Induction. Representatives of the congregation presented Father Timothy with symbolic Gifts.

Bible: Timothy, accept this Bible, and be among us as one who proclaims the Word.
Vessel of water: Timothy, take this water, and help me baptize in obedience to our Lord.
Stole: Timothy, receive this stole, and be among us as a pastor and priest.
Book of Common Prayer: Timothy, receive this book, and be among us as a man of prayer.
Oil: Timothy, use this oil, and be among us as a healer and reconciler
Keys of the Church: Timothy, receive these keys, and let the doors of this place be open to all people.
Constitution and Canons of this Church: Timothy, obey these Canons, and be among us to share in the councils of this diocese.
Bread and wine: Timothy, take this bread and wine, and be among us to break the Bread and bless the Cup.
Fish hook: Fr. Timothy, On the letterhead for St. John’s the J is a fish hook. Receive this fish hook as a reminder to be fishers of men and women to spread the love of Christ to all the world.
The Bishop then said: Timothy, let all these be signs of the ministry which is mine and yours in this place.


The Bishop then presented the new minister and his family to the congregation and said: Greet your new Rector.
